HPD then received a complaint that someone in a black Hummer were going around local businesses buying Sudafed. They were stopped on the bypass by Sgt Mike Boggs and Officer Craig Miller. The traffic stop lead to 3 people from Leslie County being arrested. Eric Caudill, 25 of Hyden was charged with DUI, Possession of Meth Precursor, and other traffic charges. Joshua Lyons, 29 of Hyden was charged with Possession of Meth Precursor. Brittany Collet, 21 of Essie was also charged with Possession of Meth Precursor and other drug related charges. All 3 admitted that they were buying the Sudafed to trade for other illegal drugs or to resale for the production of Meth. HPD was assisted by HCSO deputies at both scenes and Harlan Animal Control Officer Duncan Caldwell assisted on the traffic stop because one of the suspects had their pet with them.

The Highway Safety Program has begun. As usual, HPD will be participating in the program. Officers will be working overtime looking for speeders, seat belts and people driving under the influence. FYI, Starting 3-8-2010, Main Street from Clover to Mound will be closed for construction. Power lines, poles and sidewalks will be under construction.
