Downtown Trick or Treat
We had a bunch of Trick or Treaters for the Downtown Merchant's Trick or Treat today. It was great seeing all of the kids in costumes. Remember the regular Trick or Treat is from 5 to 7 pm on Halloween. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween.

Patrol Rifle In-Service
HPD conducted training for our new patrol rifles this past Sunday. Officer Mike Cooper conducted the day long class that consisted of class room and range time. The patrol rifle has rapidly became the weapon of choice for any tactical or active shooter situation. The patrol rifle is the AR-15 platform and is very acurate and provides a more dependable and controlable shot on target. It is becoming very widely used even more than a shotgun for police work. Each officer has the patrol rifle available for use if needed. The rifles were recently purchased with grant money but we had to wait on putting them into to service until Officer Cooper could attend the proper classes at DOCJT. More pictures are available on the HPD Facebook page.

Happy Halloween!!!!!!
One of the holidays that kids enjoy most will soon be here. Halloween is right around the corner. Ghost and goblins will be out in full force searching for candy. We want to remind everyone to be safe. Trick or Treating will be observed on October 31st from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm throughout the city and county. Also the City of Harlan and its downtown merchants will have a special Trick or Treat on Friday October 30 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. HPD will be out to make sure everyone is having a safe Halloween.
Remember and follow a few simple safety rules:
1. Go in groups
2. Visit only houses that you know and those that have a porch light on.
3. Wear something reflective and carry a flashlight.
4. Parents should always check the treats before it is consumed.
5. Smaller children should always have adult supervision and reminded not to dart across the street.

30 Years of Service!!!
Congratulations to Linda Taylor. Linda has been with the department as a dispatcher for 30 years!!! September 24th was her last night. All of HPD wishes her well and good luck on her retirement. She was always a calm, professional voice on the radio and she always watched out for her officers. She always knew where we were and made sure we were 10-4. Not to mention the good food and cooking and keeping us feed on 3rd shift. 30 years of training and experience is hard to replace and will be missed.
