Harlan Police Department Blog - Parade Update!
Parade Update!
The parade has come and gone. It was cold and we had a little snow on the ground. I think it was a big success. We didn't have any problems other than a little traffic but not near as bad as the bypass being tied up. I think having it in town at night and off the bypass was great and the way to go. Thanks to the Chamber for deciding to make the changes and their work on the parade. And thanks to our dispatcher Edna who gave us a great meal before and after the parade. Merry Christmas to all!

Parade Parking.
The Harlan Christmas Parade is this Saturday at 6:00 pm. This year's parade will feature some exciting changes. The first, being a night time to showcase the Christmas lights. The other is of course the route. The parade will stay down town and not close the bypass. Parking will be a little more challenging this year. First of all please no parking along the parade route. That’s not safe. Kids may dart out in between. Instead there are several parking areas around town that can be used. The Harlan Football field is available. Buses will be used to take people back and forth and a HPD Officer will patrol the area. The upper part of the Harlan City lot will be open. The lower part of the lot will be reserved for a private party at the Harlan Center. Only those attending that party will be allowed to park in the lower portion of the lot. Arrive early for a parking spot. Please be courteous and patient and enjoy the parade.

Christmas Parade!
The annual Harlan Christmas Parade will be December 5th at 6:00 pm. Line-up will begin at 4:30 pm. The Parade will start at the Harlan Baptist Church at the corner of Mound and Main Streets. The Parade will then travel down Main Street to Clover Street. From Clover it will continue to Williams Street at Harlan High School and turn to Central Street. The Parade will travel down Central to First Street and turn up First to Mound Street. The Parade will then conclude by traveling down Mound Street to Main Street and to the Harlan Baptist Church.

All vehicles must be removed from the Parade route prior to 5:00 pm and there will be no parking along the parade route. If the vehicles are not moved by the owner prior to 5:00 pm, the vehicles will be towed by HPD at the owner’s expense.

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and enjoy the parade.

I just wanted to say Happy Veteran's Day and a big thank you to all veterans. The Harlan Honor Guard had a great service on the court house lawn today.

Downtown Trick or Treat
We had a bunch of Trick or Treaters for the Downtown Merchant's Trick or Treat today. It was great seeing all of the kids in costumes. Remember the regular Trick or Treat is from 5 to 7 pm on Halloween. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween.
